Perishable Logistics Specialists Network Off to a Fine Start

The logistics industry needs such a group, says PLSN Coordinator
Bangkok, Thailand, December 27, 2007 - In the past perishable cargo shippers and forwarders around the world have had to search through various agents to find the right partners for their cargo and often just to be disappointed because sometimes the agents willing to handle the cargo actually don’t have the necessary expertise, facilities or the financial capability to do the job correctly.  But now there is a new logistics group, the Perishable Logistics Specialists Network (PLSN), that focuses just on the logistics companies in the cool chain industry.

"There has been a need for such a group for years", said Buford Hollis, the membership coordinator for PLSN. "This is because even though there have been such groups formed in the past they have always been exclusive.  This doesn’t work in the cool chain and perishable forwarders know it.  Why?  Very simple.  Each cool chain logistics services provider tends to specialize on one segment of the market.  For instance, one might ship frozen salmon by ocean, another fresh flowers by air and yet another might ship computer parts or pharmaceuticals overland."

Hollis went on to explain that in order to cover the entire cool chain industry, including shipments of fish, flowers, pharmaceuticals, live animals just to name a few, PLSN members are to come from all perishable backgrounds: Airfreight, ocean, overland.  "This will enhance the value of our membership," said Hollis, "Our members won’t be hamstringed the way so many forwarders are when they try to go it alone."

Membership in PLSN is not automatic though.  There is a stringent background check and industry references are required.  According to Buford Hollis, this is in order to keep the companies that really are not perishable forwarders and companies that are not financially sound out of the group.

"The main focus of PLSN is mutual business development of perishable cargo," said Hollis. "In order to accomplish this our members have to bring something to the table.  And other members don’t have to be worried that they will lose their precious money when dealing with another member."

For companies who are interested to find out more, Buford says to contact him through their website: http://www.PerishableLogisticsSpecialists.net.

Buford Hollis recommends that companies who are serious about growing their perishables business have a look at PLSN.  "They are sure to find potential perishables business partners here with lots in common", said Hollis.
